Modern scholars now believe the 'Land of Promise' could have been North America. In 1976, Tim Severin built a hide-covered leather currach (boat) and sailed it from Brandon Creek on the Dingle Peninsula to Newfoundland via Iceland and Greenland, demonstrating the accuracy and descriptions of the places Brendan mentioned in his epic.
